Each town type is quite unique from the others, having its own strengths and weaknesses. The game has many great innovative features and a new graphics style. It caused a noticeable decline over the entire online Heroes community. Many fans were severely disappointed by Heroes 4, for many valid reasons. Heroes 4 was obviously underfunded - the game release was dellayed significantly, campaign scenarios only feature drawn pictures which often repeat between different campaigns, and the multiplayer feature was implemented only after the game release. Clearly, the intention has been to make a unique game, not a bigger and better Heroes 3. Some of the major differences are: 3D perspective on the adventure map and on the battlefield, heroes now take part in battles along with their creatures, six towns with standardised graphic layout, no more creature upgrades, requirement to select between creature dwellings, addition of potions, heroes of the same type are identical, different primary and secondary skills system, more spellcasters among creatures, schools of magic are aligned with town types, creatures can walk on the map without heroes. Whenever the player encounters an enemy hero or castle a battle is shown in a close-up view.Heroes of Might and Magic 4 is radically different from Heroes of Might and Magic 3. The game uses a top down map in which the player can move his heroes a number of spaces each turn. The concept is the same: As a player, you start as a hero who's been attributed a town with a small army and each turn, you can move yourself across the land, claim resources and treasures you find, battle against ennemy foes and possibly other heroes for more power and/or to obtain unique magic items that aid you in your quest to conquer the whole territory and cleanse it from other tribes.Īnother aspect of the game is exploring the world and discovering treasures, spells, mines to gather resources, nomad camps, magic lamps, ultimate artifacts, and more. This third release is probably also the best in all the 3DO related releases from mid 1990's to mid 2000's. Heroes of Might and Magic III is one of (if not) the best fantastic/medieval strategy game for Mac and PC featuring orchestral soundtracks and marvellous soothing animated graphics.
